Since October 3rd, TransOceanic Wind Transport (TOWT), a Green Marine Europe member, has two cargo ships under construction with the Piriou Group. Once in operations, these vessels will fly the French flag. Their delivery is scheduled for late 2023 and early 2024.
These two cargo ships foreshadow the fleet that TOWT aims to build in the coming years. Over 80 meters high, each of them will have a carrying capacity of 1100 tonnes of goods (i.e. more than 100 containers), which can be handled by two 7.5 tonne cranes at 4.5 meters. Travelling at a speed of 10 knots, these cargo ships are guaranteed to reduce CO2 emissions by 90% to 97%, depending on wind strength.
Figurehead of sail-powered marine transport, TOWT has made decarbonisation its main purpose with a target of more than 90% decarbonisation compared to existing solutions.
