The Commercial Ports of Fécamp and Le Tréport Join Green Marine Europe

July 9, 2026

Green Marine Europe is pleased to welcome the commercial ports of Fécamp and Le Tréport as new participants, following the decision of the Syndicat Mixte Ports de la Seine-Maritime to join the environmental certification program.

At its Governing Committee meeting on 10 June 2026, the elected representatives unanimously approved the organisation's participation in Green Marine Europe. This decision marks another important step in the environmental transition of the department's commercial ports and reinforces their long-term commitment to sustainable development.

Supporting the Seine-Maritime Ports' 2025–2035 Strategy

This commitment is fully aligned with the 2025–2035 strategic plan of the Syndicat Mixte Ports de la Seine-Maritime, which places sustainable economic development and environmental transition at the heart of its priorities.

Joining Green Marine Europe will enable the participating ports to structure and monitor their environmental performance within a recognised, progressive and Europe-wide framework.

By becoming part of Green Marine Europe, the Seine-Maritime Ports join a network of maritime stakeholders committed to continuous improvement through measurable performance indicators, annual assessments and independent third-party verification.

A Framework for Structured Environmental Performance

Opened to port authorities in 2026, the Green Marine Europe program enables ports to structure their environmental actions around a broad range of key issues, including the energy transition, emissions reduction, waste management, circular economy, biodiversity protection, aquatic ecosystem preservation, underwater and community noise, and environmental leadership in collaboration with port users.

This approach responds to a growing need among European ports for practical tools that support long-term environmental performance management beyond regulatory compliance.

The Green Marine Europe program is based on annual environmental performance assessments, measurable indicators covering key environmental priorities, and independent third-party verification.

A Progressive Implementation Process

The Seine-Maritime Ports officially joined the program in 2026.

Their first environmental self-assessment will take place in 2027, based on the 2026 performance indicators, in accordance with the program's certification cycle.

This progressive approach allows ports to build their environmental strategy over time, combining baseline assessment, structured action planning and continuous improvement.

Ports Serving Local Economies and Coastal Communities

The Syndicat Mixte Ports de la Seine-Maritime is responsible for the management and development of the ports of Fécamp, Le Tréport, Le Havre Fishing Port and Saint-Valery-en-Caux. Together, these ports play an important role in supporting the regional economy, maritime industries and the attractiveness of the Normandy coastline.

By joining Green Marine Europe, the Seine-Maritime Ports reaffirm their commitment to supporting the decarbonisation of the maritime sector, protecting natural ecosystems, strengthening the territorial integration of their ports, improving the social acceptability of commercial port activities, and contributing to the development of a more sustainable and resilient port model.

This new participation further demonstrates the growing interest among European ports in structured, measurable environmental programs tailored to their operational realities.
