Connect. Innovate. Progress.
In 2026, Green Marine Europe’s annual event enters a new phase with a new name: Green Shipping Day, now a key European meeting point for the environmental transition of maritime transport.
A full day bringing together maritime leaders, shipowners, ports, shipyards, public decision-makers, researchers and financial actors to exchange on the sector’s transition.
This edition also introduces a new format: alongside the plenary conference, two workshops on ports and biodiversity, designed to enhance interaction and foster more operational discussions among participants.
The day will conclude with a walking dinner, offering a privileged moment for networking and informal exchanges.

Balancing tourism growth, biodiversity preservation, and port–city relations.
Mobilising sustainable capital and aligning investment with maritime innovation.
Cross perspectives from Green Marine Europe and the Horizon Europe projects CirclesOfLife and EcoShipYard. This session builds on the Green Shipping Industry Day, co-organised by Green Marine Europe, CirclesOfLife and EcoShipYard in Brussels in September 2025.
A workshop exploring how port resilience connects spatial planning, biodiversity protection, social acceptability and decarbonisation.
A workshop feeding into the work of the Pelagos Consortium, bringing together international partners to strengthen coordination across research, regulation, industry and civil society.
A session dedicated to Green Marine Europe certified members and their commitment to continuous improvement.
Highlighting the role of collective frameworks and voluntary initiatives in driving measurable environmental performance.
The morning session will explore the key challenges shaping the future of the maritime sector through four thematic discussions:
⚓Aligning Maritime Ambition Across Continents
An opening session focused on the priorities of the maritime transition and the importance of international cooperation.
⚓Blue Tourism at a Crossroads: Balancing Growth, Biodiversity and Acceptability
A discussion on the future of blue tourism, exploring how to balance economic attractiveness, ecosystem preservation and territorial acceptability.
⚓Financing the Green Shift: From Compliance to Competitive Advantage
A conversation on financing the environmental transition and the opportunities it can create for maritime stakeholders.
⚓Closing the Loop: Building a Coherent Maritime Ecosystem
A discussion dedicated to circularity, ship lifecycle approaches and the collaborations needed to build a more coherent and sustainable maritime ecosystem.
The afternoon session will focus on practical solutions and operational implementation through collaborative workshops and collective discussions:
⚓WORKSHOP - Resilient Ports & Infrastructure: Preparing for Systemic Risk
A collaborative workshop dedicated to strengthening the resilience of port infrastructure in the face of climate, economic and territorial challenges. Discussions will explore adaptation strategies, infrastructure planning, biodiversity considerations and the evolving role of ports in resilient regional development.
⚓WORKSHOP - Underwater Noise & Ship–Cetacean Collisions: From Knowledge to Collective Action
A workshop focused on marine biodiversity and the growing challenge of reducing the impacts of maritime transport on cetaceans. Building on the work of the Pelagos Consortium, participants will explore pathways from scientific knowledge to coordinated operational action.
⚓From Dialogue to Action: Key Takeaways & Next Steps
A plenary session bringing together the main conclusions and recommendations emerging from both workshops, with a focus on future collaboration and implementation.
⚓Certification as a Trust Signal
A closing session highlighting the role of environmental certification as a driver of credibility, continuous improvement and trust across the maritime sector. Through testimonials and perspectives from certified organisations and industry leaders, the discussion will explore how voluntary frameworks can support meaningful environmental progress.
