The Pelagos Consortium in video

November 20, 2025

Green Marine Europe presents a five-episode video series dedicated to the Pelagos Consortium, a multi-stakeholder alliance committed to strengthening the protection of cetaceans in the Mediterranean.

Through interviews with Consortium members, the series highlights:

  • the uniqueness of the Pelagos Sanctuary, the first transboundary marine protected area in the Mediterranean dedicated to marine mammals,
  • the multiple pressures it faces,
  • and the need for close cooperation between science, institutions, NGOs and economic actors.

The episodes feature contributions from representatives of the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, BlueSeeds, the Tethys Research Institute - coordinator of the Consortium - as well as Green Marine Europe, which helps mobilise maritime transport stakeholders around sound environmental practices.

This diversity of actors is a key strength of the Pelagos Consortium. It provides the foundation for a collective approach based on knowledge sharing, stakeholder engagement and continuous improvement.

The Consortium’s action is structured around four strategic pillars: advocacy and regulation, communication, stakeholder mobilisation, and research and innovation.

The ambition is clear: to strengthen the Pelagos Sanctuary’s role as a reference area for cetacean protection and to make it a model for the entire Mediterranean.

Members of the Consortium:
