Région Nouvelle-Aquitaine becomes a supporter of Green Marine Europe

September 12, 2025

Green Marine Europe is pleased to welcome Région Nouvelle-Aquitaine among its supporters. This commitment is part of an ambitious regional strategy for innovative, sustainable, and responsible maritime development.

A strategic region for the French maritime economy

With over 900 kilometers of coastline, 4 commercial ports, 12 fishing ports, and a leading nautical and shipbuilding sector, Nouvelle-Aquitaine stands as a cornerstone of the national maritime economy.

This sector represents:

  • More than 20,000 businesses
  • 65,000 direct jobs
  • Over €12 billion in turnover

More than half of these jobs are tied to coastal tourism. Other activities include:

  • Shipbuilding, boating, and board sports
  • Port logistics and maritime transport
  • Marine resource valorization
  • Research, training, and governance
A concrete commitment to the maritime transition

Région Nouvelle-Aquitaine pursues a proactive policy in favor of ecological and energy transitions, with a particular focus on the sustainability of maritime industries. It supports innovation, sector structuring, port cooperation, and adaptation to climate change.

Since 2022, the Region has also been a founding member of the Aquitania Ports Link association, alongside the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the ports of La Rochelle, Rochefort Tonnay-Charente, Bordeaux, and Bayonne. Its goal: to strengthen the visibility of the regional port offer at both national and international levels, and to unite stakeholders around structuring projects.

A coherent support for the Green Marine Europe approach

By joining Green Marine Europe as a supporter, Région Nouvelle-Aquitaine confirms its commitment to:

  • Reducing the environmental impacts of maritime transport and infrastructure
  • Promoting a voluntary, rigorous, and credible framework
  • Fostering cooperation between territories and economic actors

We are proud to count on its support to strengthen the European momentum in favor of an exemplary maritime transition.
