LOUIS DREYFUS ARMATEURS Group (LDA) participating in Green Marine Europe environmental certification program.
For more than 170 years, LOUIS DREYFUS ARMATEURS Group (LDA) has been offering its clients tailor-made industrial maritime solutions with high added value activities and integrated services, from ship design and shipmanagement to maritime operations.
Offering a worldwide presence with more than 2,600 employees and a fleet with some 100 units, LDA is a French family-owned Group, offering maritime transportation and services in the following businesses:
Louis Dreyfus Armateurs has always paid attention to its environmental impact and in particular to reducing its carbon footprint. The Group has been carrying out actions for several years in favor of the preservation of marine ecosystems as part of its activities. The Chairman of the Group's Supervisory Board, Philippe Louis-Dreyfus, has been conveying this message for many years, particularly within Armateurs de France, the European Shipowners Association (ECSA) and the Baltic International Council (BIMCO) - during the time he acted as Chairman. A pioneer in this field, he raised awareness of the ecological cost of speed and the need to make shipping and services much more energy efficient. He also initiated the creation of the Blue Charter of Armateurs de France, which encourages its signatories to promote social and environmental examples.
To help develop sustainable shipping activities, the LDA Group places innovation at the heart of its strategy. LDA supports its clients in numerous innovative projects: from developing the first integral double-hull bulk carrier in the 2000s, to launching in 2019 the first hybrid-electric SOV, through optimizing the propellers and hulls of its ro-ro or bulk carriers to enhance energy efficiency at reduced speed.
Today, Louis Dreyfus Armateurs is working alongside AirSeas on the integration of a Seawing (kite) on its ro-ro vessel “Ville de Bordeaux”. In 2022, the Group also successfully tested the operation of the engines of a ro-ro ship with 100% biofuel fuel and will pursue this initiative with its client Airbus throughout 2023. It will also install bound4blue eSail wings on one of its ships in 2023.
Looking ahead, LDA is working on various ground-breaking projects: ro-ro ships with a near-zero carbon footprint, an offshore wind farm support vessel running on e-methanol and green hydrogen, as well as leading a French multi-partners innovation program to develop a “Zero Emission & Safe Transfer” (ZEST) Crew Transfer Vessel.
Louis Dreyfus Armateurs Group naturally joined the Green Marine Europe certification process. It was during the One Ocean Summit in Brest that Edouard Louis-Dreyfus, President of the Executive Board, announced his intention to join the label. This is the natural consequence of the actions carried out by the Group to limit its impact on the environment and to support its clients in their journey towards the energy transition.
