On June 11, 2025, during the United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC3) in Nice, Green Marine Europe officially joined the Pelagos Consortium, a pioneering alliance dedicated to strengthening cetacean protection within the Pelagos Sanctuary.
Launched at the Palais des Rois Sardes in Nice, under the leadership of the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation and the Tethys Research Institute, the Pelagos Consortium aims to transform the Sanctuary into a global model of transboundary marine governance, focused on protecting cetaceans and their natural habitats.
Supported by a dedicated philanthropic coalition, the Consortium brings together 13 international partners across four strategic pillars:
It is on this last pillar that Green Marine Europe will focus its efforts: ensuring the long-term engagement of maritime industry stakeholders – including ports, shipowners, shipyards, fishers, and local authorities – in co-developing tangible, measurable solutions to protect marine biodiversity.
The launch event was marked by the presence of key figures:
Their presence sent a strong message of recognition for the strategic role of the Pelagos Sanctuary in safeguarding marine life in the Mediterranean.
As the Sovereign Prince emphasized: “Unity of purpose is the key to success.”
Green Marine Europe proudly embodies this collective ambition, bridging international goals and operational action.
