CARDEM joins the Green Marine Europe certification

December 17, 2025

Specialising in the deconstruction, dismantling and remediation of complex structures, Cardem has joined the Green Marine Europe (GME) environmental certification programme. A subsidiary of VINCI Construction, the company brings to GME strong operational expertise related to the ship life cycle, a key area for building a more sustainable maritime industry.

Proven maritime expertise

While Cardem has long operated across a wide range of deconstruction and dismantling activities, it has strengthened its footprint in the maritime sector through several large-scale shipyard projects.

In Bassens (Grand Port Maritime de Bordeaux), Cardem was selected to dismantle eight decommissioned military vessels for the French Navy, covering the full chain of operations from site securing through to material recovery and valorisation.

Beyond the dismantling of an all-weather lifeboat for the SNSM, the company has also carried out the deconstruction of century-old lock gates and of the cargo vessel Luna S, demonstrating its ability to manage heavy maritime hulls within demanding industrial environments.

Cardem is now involved in complex recycling flows for naval structures, a critical link in the transition towards a circular economy in the maritime sector.

Why this choice for Green Marine Europe ?

The Green Marine Europe certification aims to bring together actors that directly or indirectly impact the marine environment throughout the ship life cycle: construction, operation, maintenance and end-of-life. This objective is further reinforced by Green Marine Europe’s participation in the Horizon Europe CirclesOfLife consortium.

Cardem’s involvement strengthens this approach by providing a concrete perspective on the responsible management of end-of-life vessels, including appropriate practices for remediation, recycling and environmental safety.

A strong signal for the industry

Cardem’s commitment to the certification reflects the gradual expansion of the community of stakeholders engaged across the ship life cycle, working collectively to reduce the environmental footprint of maritime activities at every stage.
