On 28 October, Green Marine Europe took part in a webinar organised by Armateurs de France on ship waste management, alongside French Directorate-General for Maritime Affairs, Fisheries and Aquaculture (DGAMPA), PONANT, Bureau Veritas and EcoSens.
The webinar brought together different perspectives on the limitations of the current regulatory framework, shipowners’ operational practices, and solutions to improve waste reduction, sorting, traceability and recovery.
Green Marine Europe presented several best practices, as well as recent developments in its Waste Management certification performance indicator.
The discussions highlighted a key point: environmental performance does not depend solely on what happens on board. It also relies on coordination between shipping companies, ports, service providers and shore-based waste treatment facilities.
This approach is fully aligned with the Green Marine Europe program: assessing practices, encouraging continuous improvement and promoting the sharing of practical experience among maritime stakeholders.
