Green Marine Europe welcomes Odessos Shiprepair Yard S.A. among its participants. Located in the Port of Varna, Bulgaria, the shipyard serves the Black Sea, Eastern Mediterranean and international shipping markets.
Established in 1955, Odessos Shiprepair Yard has developed into one of the leading ship repair and conversion yards in the region. The yard presents itself as the largest and best-equipped ship repair yard in Bulgaria, with dry-docking capacity for vessels up to 90,000 DWT and afloat repair capacity for vessels up to 150,000 DWT.
Located at the southern end of Varna, on the island between the old and new canals connecting the Black Sea to Lake Varna, Odessos benefits from a strategic location close to the Port of Varna and at the crossroads of several transport and trade routes.
The yard operates an integrated industrial infrastructure combining dry-docking and quay repair capabilities. Its facilities include one dry dock, two floating docks, quay berths, specialized workshops and in-house engineering capabilities.
Odessos carries out mechanical, steel, piping, electrical, propulsion, coating and structural repair works. The yard also has in-house foundry, machining, forging and metal processing capabilities, enabling the manufacturing or restoration of critical components within controlled operational timelines.
The environmental transition of maritime transport does not only concern operations at sea. It also involves the industrial infrastructures capable of maintaining, modernizing, adapting and extending the operational life of vessels.
Shipyards therefore occupy a strategic position in the evolution of the sector. They operate at the intersection of technical performance, maintenance, repair, conversion, safety and the gradual integration of new environmental requirements.
In this context, Odessos Shiprepair Yard’s participation in Green Marine Europe illustrates the growing importance of repair and conversion yards in structuring environmental trajectories across the full vessel lifecycle.
Odessos Shiprepair Yard holds several international certifications covering quality management, occupational health and safety, environmental management and energy management. The yard is certified ISO 9001:2015, ISO 45001:2018, ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 50001:2011 for its ship repair and conversion activities.
These elements reflect an already structured approach based on industrial processes, control procedures and recognized standards. Participation in Green Marine Europe allows this approach to be embedded within a sector-specific framework dedicated to maritime environmental performance, based on measurable indicators, continuous improvement and independent third-party verification.
With the addition of Odessos Shiprepair Yard, Green Marine Europe continues to develop its program among complementary industrial profiles: shipowners, ports and shipyards.
This participation strengthens the program’s presence in a strategic maritime area connecting the Black Sea, the Eastern Mediterranean and international markets. It also confirms the relevance of the Green Marine Europe framework for industrial stakeholders directly involved in the maintenance, repair and transformation of vessels.
By integrating repair and conversion yards such as Odessos Shiprepair Yard, Green Marine Europe continues to support the development of credible, progressive and verified environmental performance across the maritime value chain.
